linux laptop recommendation?

Your ideas please--I'm just a regular user of web, email, photos, audio, chat, podcast and basic word proc & spreadsheet functions; not a programmer or gamer.

I intend to use Ubuntu which is my desktop for 1 year now. I'd like to have the Core Duo or even Core 2 Duo, 100 or 120 GB drive, 1 to 2G Ram, wireless card, even integral webcam (a la macbook) if possible though that's just a luxury. Dell seems a reasonable price but who else competes well with them? (price range ~1000-1500) Don't really need WinXP though it comes on most non-apple laptops anyway. There's really no advantage in building is there?

Thanks.
