Question Apple IPOD/NANO

hi all,

I am in the market for a sleek, but small mp3 player for using in the gym.

I had an Iriver T10 which was awesome, but it broke and no one sells it for the price I got it for ($90 New on Amazon.com).

I was wondering since the ipod/nano are made by Apple, are you REQUIRED to use itunes and pay for music, or can I use (yahoo music, LimeWIRE, or any other service that I dont want to pay for each song).

Thanks for the input.

The iPod will not play WMA files, but itunes will try to convert them for you, unless they are protected.

There are much better products out there for the money, unless you are really into ipods. Check out creative's line of players. You can get much more gb's for you dollar.

Might wanna check out the SanDisk Sansa line, it looks pretty sweet and comes in like 512mb-8gb flavours of built in flash memory, the e200 series has a microSD expansion slot to add more to your music collection! Pretty good deals, espeically when comparing the price of the e200 Sansas to the iPod Nanos.

Don't forget the nano is a very fragile product , I have seen more then one person snap one in half in there pocket . if it is just for the gym i would stick with some thing simple like a shuffle , less distraction personally i usually end up changing songs on my ipod then working out , yes you have the option to put it on shuffle but its so easy and tempting to give the wheel a spin . I have a 20 gb for day to day and use a ipod shuffle for recreation but thats just me .

My bud just got the 8GB version. It seems really nice and works great. A little larger than a Nano, but cheaper and more space, and a color screen. Plus, you won't have to jump on the ipod bandwagon, if you are (or aren't) concerned with the cool factor. He uses it for mountain biking. It seems as robust as any other flash mp3 player.
