speed step

does anyone know how to turn off speedstep but keep the CPU running at the highest performance settings?

That's a pretty general question, you didn't provide any system specifics, so I have to give you a general answer. Look through the bios setup pages and through any Windows management utilities that may be installed.

its an intel core 2 t5500. Dell inspiron e1505 laptop. The only setting in bios is to turn off speedstepping and leave the computer running at the minimum specs (1.0GHZ) which is what it would step down to while on battery power. The processor runs at 1.66GHZ when plugged in, and i wanted to see if theres anyway possible to get it to run at 1.66GHZ even while on battery power.

If you open the power properties tab, if you set the computer type to home/office desk, that might do the trick. That used to work on my PIII notebook.

I was told somewhere else to open power properties and change it to "always on" so far i THINK that option is working...
