Talking New laptop power connection: problem

I have a two month old HP dv8000 Pavillion laptop which is working well on just about every level. The connection from the power cable to the laptop, however, has issues.

The warranty is still in effect, but it is very difficult now to even charge the battery from a 110 v outlet because the physical connection between the cable and the laptop is weak. I will contact HP to have the connection replaced, but are there any quick fixes which will allow the electricity to flow between the male and female parts?

The only way I can find to get the electricity flowing between the two pieces is to twist the male side in a circle until the power meter shows an electrical connection has been made.

Ideas? I am looking for a short term fix until I can have the piece replaced.

Not really, unless you open it up and resolder it yourself. This is a common issue with laptops.

Yes, I had precisely the same problem with a Toshiba few years back, so I am two for two on this score. I don't have any soldering abilities, so that won't work, and I expect the factory repair people would not look too kindly on that sort of fix once I send the repair to them.

I was thinking of using some sort of conducting metal to place inside the laptops side of the connection just to provide a charge while the computer is at rest.

Don't use any metal in a temporary fix. Just get the power jack fixed. If you damage anything with a temp fix you may end up paying for the repair.

Yeah, I know better than to do anything permanent like soldering a connection on a brand new laptop, I was just looking for a way to keep it charged until the jack is repaired. I am sure I will have to give up the laptop for a week or two while it is repaired.
