AMD Turion and Intel Centrino

What do you guys recon about these two chips in general:

AMD Turion
Intel Centrino

I don't know a lot about laptop technology and would appreciate if someone could help me out and point out the pros and cons of the two above chips. Is one generally better than the other?

Thanks

The Centrino is not a chip. It began as a name for the combination of a Pentium M, an Intel wireless chip and the Intel 855 chipset. When Pentium M's were top of the line, it was the best way to go. It has since evolved in the combination of technologies to include new chips. You can read about them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrino

Right now, I'd go with a laptop with a Core 2 Duo.

The Turions are AMDs mobile Athlon CPUs. And just like on the desktop, the Core chips from Intel are the current champs in performance and battery life.

Thanks Alaron, thats interesting to know about the situation with Centrino "technology".

The reason I am comparing the "Pentium M"? and the Turion is because I am after a low priced laptop for my dad, mainly for home use so battery life is no issue. I just want the best performance for the money and these two chips are similarly priced.

Thanks again.

Being an Intel fan, I of course recommend the Pentium-M. I would avoid the Celeron-M though unless money is VERY tight, it doesn't use Centrino power management.

I've always been wary of Celeron CPU's in any shape or form, so have advised against them.

Thanks for the input and I will look into what's available from both Intel and AMD
