Haha. I wouldn't mind carrying that around, seriously.

in my book, if you can take it around and run it on battery its portable, the question is how portable it is. with that sort of battery life, i would say it isn't very. but then again i would probably, if i had one, use it by taking it around the house, like a portable desktop with less wires, not as a laptop. as its not a laptop, that no one can dispute.

For me, a notebook is a work tool, and the smaller the better. Even my 15" Dell is too large to be truly convenient. I'm pretty sure my next notebook will be the 13" Apple.
Like anything though, that Dell does have its uses. Take for example, a university student - who will leave their computer on the desk for the majority of the time, but wants to cart it home during every holiday. Easier than boxing up a tower, monitor and peripherals, maybe? FK

Still, an 18 pound notebook reminds me of the old "luggables". It's a portable computer, not a "laptop". It's a computer in a stylish suitcase.

My 17" widescreen Dell 9300 is rather large. It's one of the lightest 17" laptops out there, though. I use it to travel from home to work, and use it in one of my classes on the desk. I think it's too large for college classes. I'll probably be leaving this one in my dorm and purchasing a cheap 15" or smaller laptop from Dell to take to classes.

I'm not a gamer, so my 14" 4 pound Thinkpad does what I need very nicely. It even fits well on the trays on airplanes.

Hehe, I ranted about this behemoth a while back in one of pcmech's newsletters. It's ridiculuous in my opinion.

I recall learning DOS on a " luggable ' made by COMPAQ back in the early to mid 1980s on a machine which probably weighed about that much. Back then we had only one choice, however, and that was it. I can't recall the model number, but it was COMPAQ's introduction into the wold of PC's.

If I wanted a beast of a laptop and didn't care how much it weight I would go with a toughbook...not this thing.
