IBM T42 wifi & Access Connection update problems

I use a IBM T42 at work with Win2K and have been having driver issues that my IT folks are not even able to help. I hope someone here can.

There is a Fn+F5 key that brings up a menu to power on/off the in-built wireless and the software called "Access Connections". After updating to the latest drivers, the keys cannot power the wireless anymore.

I've check and recheck all the driver compatibility requirements and reinstall it many times but to no success. Is it just me or a buggy update.

The new wireless driver is version 9.0.4.17 (supports WPA) and goes with the software "Access Connections" ver 4.21. Other prerequisites are Hotkey manager and power managenent driver. I use all of them but to no avail.
The wifi driver itself can work though. It that I cannot use the Fn+F5 and Access Connection cannot "see" the driver.

My current wifi driver is 8.1.0.28 (supports only WEP) and AC software is ver 3.53.

I also tried intermediate versions of the driver (9.0.4.8) but the same problem persists.

Any user with the same problems ?

Try uninstalling Access Connections and the wireless driver. Then, reinstall only the wireless driver. I've seen Access Connections break wireless on occasion.

You may want to download the IBM Software Update and make sure everything is properly installed (besides Access Connections, that is).

I've done that like a zillion times - The driver works by itself (meaning using WZC) but not with the Fn+F5 key. Its the same whether I install Access Connections or not.
I've tried installing them using the Software update, system update and even manual installation of the latest drivers as specified in the instructions but to no avail.

Can I install other brands connection manager as long as its the same wifi module ?

I fixed the problem about two years ago on a client's computer and I have no recollection of how I did it. However, I did find this page on Google:

Upgraded to WinXP and everything is working as it should be. A new driver was also released on 16 Nov. I guess its the new driver that fixes the bugs and not XP or Win2K.

Starting up and shutting down is also now much faster as well compared to when on Win2K.
