Those of you that have PDA's...
I'm looking at getting a PDA as a present, but one that does all kinds of tasks not needed.
Basically one that can handle a shopping list, has a calendar, and an area to put address's and phone numbers! Perhaps a few other "notes" and such, but not much more than this, so would any of you have an idea of which might be available to do these above tasks? I quickly looked at the HP IPAQ, but it seems to be far in excess of the things I want to do with it! Any comments/advice on this would be appreciated! Thanks...

Agreed. A cheap Palm is all you need, and the Palm Desktop software is an excellent PIM by itself too. To me, there's no advantage in using a Windows PDA and linking it to Outlook.

For price and ease of use/stability, the Palm is by far the way to go. I have a Treo 650, a Treo 680 on order and 3 windows mobile devices, the Palm platform is rock solid has an awful lot of software available to it (a lot for free). My only real issue with the Palm platform is that it's extremely dated, development has actually stopped on Palm OS and is now moving to ALP (Access Linux Platform).

I have a Palm Zire 21, which is your basic flavor right down to a gray-scale screen.
My wife has a Zire 31. It has a color screen, which is cool for calendar. She can code events different colors, so that family events are one color, work meetings another, etc.

I have a Palm LifeDrive, which is the top of the line. It's more like a pocket computer of sorts. I use it for the PDA stuff, but also as my portable MP3 player and movie viewer. I ride public transit and am able to watch a movie every day or two just riding the bus. It's really, really slick! Plus I can surf the web, read email, do Word and Excel, etc...
