IBM T21 2647 Help Needed!

I just picked up an IBM T21 2647-87U,and need some help with it.When I plug it in with the battery in it,the battery light turns amber like the battery is charging. When I push the power button, the hard drive light blinks once, and the battery light turns green, but the machine doesn't turn on.After a few seconds, the battery light turns back to amber.Pushing the power button without the battery in it on AC power, the hard drive light blinks once, and the battery light blinks a lighter amber once.Right now the hard drive is out of it.Does this model need the hard drive in it to boot?Is the motherboard gone?Any links to how this comes apart?Any help is greatly appreciated.Thank You very much!

You replace the motherboard. Search Ebay.

Even without a battery or a hard drive, it should boot to an IBM splash screen.

Did you get the T20 working? After taking mine apart,I thought it might be the DC connector. I noticed on the bottom of the connector that there is a contact that touches the I/O board, and a section on the connector was purple like it might have not been making a good connection. The contact on the board is alright. But after hearing that you are having the same problem, what are the odds it's the connector?Any idea what might have caused the board to go,or what is bad on it?Are these pretty good machines when they are working? What does the button below the two mouse buttons do?Thank You very much!

We haven't tried to fix it - he has several more of them and we are using it as a spare parts machine.

The bottom button is a scroll down - like a wheel on a mouse.

They are excellent machines when they are working and they are generally very reliable.
