Compaq LAptop

Hi,

I have an old compaq presario 1200 laptop.
I do not have the original win 98 that was sold with the computer anymore.

What do I do in order to install another Win98 SE that I have?

Thanks.

Boot with the CD and install it - same way. You may have to get drivers from the Compaq website.

When I boot it up with the non-compaq Win 98 CD, it starts up, does a scan disk then reboots in order to install, but that this point it doesn't work because its not the compact win98 disk.

i'm trying to figure out what I need to do so that it takes my non-compaq CD because installing it normally isn't working.

Thanks

EDIT: I wrote to compaq to see what they think I should do.

Please elaborate on "it doesn't work".

A friend of mine had a similar probelm a few months back but with a fujitsu laptop but he found his original CD and the problem went away.

I got a reply from Compaq, they only said to format the drive and use the appropriete key with the new win 98 CD.

Thanks

Need to go into the BIOS and set the CD drive as first boot device. Then reboot with the 98 cd in the drive.

Looks to me like you may have bad ram or a bad hard drive in that thing.
