Spilled Water on Laptop!

my wife was working on her final when she accidentally spilled water on her laptop. it immediately went blank and seems to have shut down. we don't have anything like a can of air or a hair dryer to dry it with so we just let the water drip out and did our best to fan anything out. i remeoved the battery.
what's the prognosis do you think? and is there anything else we can do for it?
thanks!

It is hard to say. Sometimes water will ruin it. Other times you just need to make sure that it is thoroughly dry before you start it up. This means taking the unit apart. What brand is it?

It is a Dell 820. So far I've read that we should leave it off from anywhere from an hour to a day (some say a week, but I think that's absurd). We've dried it as best as I can imagine. So we may just give it a day and turn it on.

I dropped my cellphone in the pool before and it took a day to dry out before it worked again. Hopefully the same will occur here.
Good luck.

now i don't want to get overly excited right away. but we turned on the laptop after having dried it out and let it sit without a battery for four hours and it is working just like normal!!! plus her final exam was recovered!
i just hope there's no relapse or anything, but so far this is great!

I dropped my digital camera in the Keg water once, it did not recover. I have however dropped all kinds of liquids into my keyboard and after a thorough dishwashing and drying, it came out just like new. Now I'm definitly not suggesting you wash your laptop, but maybe put it over the vents for a day and give it a go. My monitor and printer go stuck in a rain storm in the back of my pick-up, and after a few days of drying they both worked.

note to self, stay away from anything wet.

You could have problems in the future, Since drinking water has minerals and salts, these will rehydrate from humidity and start to corrode electronics.
