Performance Laptops

I am looking for a "performance" type laptop if such a thing exists. budget will probably be <$1500. I think i want to stay away from the major brands - dell, HP, sony, apple, etc etc etc...ive been looking at some of the more "gaming" types since hopefully they wont get slow (most laptops seem to be godawfully slow to me). stuff like the have on ibuypower.com seems cool but are these things any good? any other suggestions for a fast laptop?

My choice would be a Dell with a Core 2 Duo, 2gb of memory, and a good video card.

That would be a fine gaming type laptop in my opinion. What is wrong with Dell? They make some of the best laptops I know.

well, dell packs a lot of stupid software with it. And I know Pcdecrapifier, but it's still annoying. I also am very against Dell, it's hard to explain, I just don't like Dells too.

you guys might like dell and thats fine, but those things come really bottled up from the manufacturer. tons of junk software, expensive, cheap and ugly looking...there are 5 dell computers in my hosuehold that i am constantly wasting time fixing and having problems all over the place. my dad's laptop needs a windows XP repair like every other time its booted up, its thick as a cinderblock and made out of cheap plastic, and its been slow as molasses since hte day he bought it even though it was one of the fastest processors at the time (p4 hyperthreading) with plenty of ram...worst of all the thing has a 30 gig hard drive! not to mention the whole dell software deal and the fact that the things are so proprietary--they even lock the BIOS...dell just causes problems for me, i cant deal with the "average" computer that doesnt give me the flexibility to make the settings how i want them and modify things to my liking.

Moved to Portable Tech.

Dell's junk software is easily removable with PCDecrapifier, but we can respect your decison.

PowerNotebooks.com has a great rating on RR: http://www.resellerratings.com/store/PowerNotebooks

i shouldnt bash on dell, just had enough bad experiences with em to make me a little biased. when it comes to computers i really have never been a fan of the mass produced stuff, seems to be like they try to make them more friendly for the average user (which is totally understandable since thats their audience) but for people like me its a little annoying.

ill check out that powernotebooks place, looks good.. thanks.i like the alienware area 51, looks a little big to be lugging aroung to classes with me when i go to college, but man...raid 0 on a laptop? for an extra $100 you get raid 0 with two 60 gig drives, that sure would help keep it from being slow! hopefully powernotebooks has somehting that can solve my dilemma lol

You haven't seen preinstalled crap till you've seen an Acer though. ALL name brand laptops are afflicted with that.
