Boom New Laptop Display Problems

I have just bought a laptop for my girlfriend for christmas. I have just noticed that there is a problem with the display. The laptop is a Fujitsu Siemens with a 15.4" widescreen display, the monitor has a vertical band running up the entire height of the monitor which is about 1.5" thick, the band is just off centre of the display. Everything that is within this band is lighter than the rest of the monitor, it is a perfect band with very straight lines. I never noticed at first as I was just surfing the net and you cannot tell on a white screen. I then tried an old game and noticed the band, at first I thought it was just the game but after I shut it down I noticed it on the desktop and the taskbar. I have tried uninstalling the display drivers and putting them back on but that has changed nothing. I just wondered if there was anything else that I could try before I take it back. As going back to the shop where I bought it from at christmas time here in the UK is murder as they are so busy, think I will have to though as I am convinced the display is faulty on this laptop, very dissapointing for my first laptop but such is life

A friend of mine had the same problem with a Dell laptop, apparently it was the inverter cable that caused the problem but by the time the cable was changed the problem had become permanent. Dell wouldn't play nice and said it was out of warranty then they said it was cosmetic and therefore they weren't resposible, it wound up costing $800 for a replacement screen.
Take it back and get it changed.

Thanks for the advice the fault has actually came back again so it is going back tomorrow. I was bothered in case it did not do it when I took it back, but the laptop comes with a no quibble replacement/refund if returned within 14 days so it does not matter. Taking it back tomorrow

In the meantime, you can just plug it into an external moniter.
