smokin Next Generation iPods soon?

Do you guys think a new generation of 30 gig ipods are coming out? I am about to buy one, and i would hate to get one and a new one come out! I have had a feeling a new one was going to come out for a whle, but what do you think? I know there was speculation about an iPhone, and that kind of got canned, so i am thinking this hype about a new ipod is kind of the same way. thanks for a quick reply

Your're not wrong, check out the iPod generations and their dates here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPod#Models

Apple is in a fairly constant update and revise cycle with iPods, which means there will always be a new model coming out.
The same rule that applies to computer tech applies to them.
It's outdated as soon as you buy it.

Yeah, since that is always the case with tech stuff, then one just has to bear down and buy. Otherwise, if you give in to the fear you will never buy a tech product. Besides, the new products coming out are overpriced and are untested, who wants to be the bug tester for an upgraded product?
Go ahead, buy and enjoy.

There's no way to know for sure. But MacWorld is in January, so that would be a great time to announce something. http://www.macworldexpo.com/live/20/

Historically Apple have not introduced iPods at Macworld, they usually hold a special even for iPods. Macworld is generally the launch platform for consumer mac's. I think you'll see new displays with cameras built in, the itv and 802.11n products, maybe a 15" Macbook and judging by the rumors and patent filings, an Apple cell phone. Still a good idea to wait until Macworld is over though.

hmm, when is macworld?

Here's the situation: Im working seasonal at Futureshop, and i will probably get laid off about 2nd week in january. I have staff discount at it, and i get some money off of ipods and especially accessories.

But still, i would rather get something that no one has then get something a bit cheaper

iPods are going to continue to progress until they are a fancy Treo!

Actually, forget an iPod and check out the PALM LIFEDRIVE. Don't be wigged at the fact that the Palm only has a 4GB fix hard drive with a slot for 2 GB SD cards.

It does PDA stuff; connects to the Internet and does email via WiFi or Bluetooth (with Bluetooth phone); does Word, Excel, read PDF; you can port files. It'll play mp3s, although something like an iPod Shuffle would be more convenient if that was the main purpose.

But as a personal video player this thing is the bomb! I use a freeware multimedia player, TCPMP. It plays DivX and mpeg files flawlessly. These are the exact same DivX files I play on my home Philips DVP 642. No further conversion is necessary for "portable size" screens. I do have to convert if the audio is in ACC.

I take public transportation and am able to watch a full length movie almost every day. I'm watching a movie while everyone else is watching their playlist!
