can't use wireless!

I have a netgear DG834G router and a dell inspiron 6400 laptop , I can connect using the ethernet wired connection no problem and the wireless is recognised and appears connected but when i disconnect the ethernet and try to use the wireless connection only I cannot connect to the internet. Any ideas on how I can get the laptop to connect to the internet using wireless only and not the ethernet cable?

What happens when you boot it up with the Ethernet disconnected? Are you using the Dell utility or Windows to configure the wireless connection? Does the encryption exactly match?
