Laptop coolers
Does anyone know of a good laptop cooler that you would suggest? I think this is the right forum, I have sort of an odd application for one. I recently reran the cabling in my home theater set-up and ran into a bit of a problem. I moved my digital cable box (a Motorola DCT-2244) down to a shelf near my home theater PC, but I never realize how HOT this thing gets before, and I'm a little afraid it might do something to the HTPC. I want to pull some of that heat away and a slim laptop cooler seems like the best option.

If the cable box isn't sitting on the HTPC or the other way around, the PC should OK, unless these components are in an enclosed cabinet.

They arn't sitting right on each other, but they are in a cabinet. There is space between them and the back is pretty much open, but the inside is pretty warm. And the case on the HTPC is coated steel and not aluminum so it just collects the heat.

How about using one of those personal desktop fans in a 4 or 6" size. They probaly will move air better than a laptop cooler and at less than $20.

I had considered that, but wasn't sure where I'd put one. I guess behind the TV stand blowing up and tward the front would probably work. You're right, it would move a lot more air.

Any way to mount standard 80 or 120mm case fans in the cabinet? You should be able to get +12vdc from somewhere to run them, or buy AC fans.

Defiantly possible. The stand is just standard particle board. Adding a few fans wouldn't be hard. I hadn't considered that, but it probobly would work much better.
