Yesterday my HP Pavillion ZE4315US laptop just went into deep Hibernation when I turned it
on. With the adapter plugged in, the power light indicator usually glows steadily, even if the unit isn't on. Now, there's no glow at all with the adapter plugged in. (The adapter's green light does glow). It usually runs under Win XP Home edition Pressing the power button only results in the power indicator merely flashing a few times, then going dead. This unit got a new battery two months ago, which worked fine. Plugging the adapter in overnight made no difference. Pressing Reset did no good, either. Is this baby Kaput? Thanks for any feedback.... |

Being that you don't even get a green light on the power adapter, and I assume that is so with the adapter plugged into the wall but not the laptop, and assuming you would always see the green light on the power adapter itself as long as it is plugged into the wall, then it would seem to me that there is a chance that the adapter is shot and you laptop battery used all it's available juice the last time you were using it but now can not recharge because the adapter is shot. Just a theory based upon your observations and hopefully that is all it is so that you will only have to replace the power adapter and will not loose any of your programs and data. I would either get out my voltmeter and test to see if I'm getting the proper dc voltage from the power adapter, of find someone who has the same type laptop and adapter to test with, just be sure it is exactly the same type and puts out the EXACT same dc voltage yours does.

KTK -
Thanks for your response - My diction there maybe needed tweaking - The adapter's light still does glow green - the power light indicator on the laptop just flickers when power button is pressed, then goes dead. |

Sorry, my fault if I read closer you did say the green light is lit on the adapter itself, you'll probably need to take the laptop in for service since you have already tried a new battery, and there isn't anything else that pertains to your problem, other than the adapter itself that is really user servicable.

Just because the green light is lit on the adapter doesn't mean it works.

Good point, glc - I'll get ahold of a voltmeter, and test that sucker.
