Laptop DVD-RAM

Hey there, I am currently working with a Toshiba PSAA8C-0FH00E notebook with the mat****a UJ-841S dvd-ram drive, a intel dual core 1.6 2050, and 1Gb of ram. Now, my problem is that it is rated for 8x dvd-r burning and when burning a dvd, I am only given the option to burn at 2x. I feel as though with what the machine is running, I should be able to acheive a bit better than 2x burning ? note that I am using 16x dvd-r's, and I have tried using different media and I acheive the same result. thanks

We, or you, are missing something.
Give us all specs please, if the optical drive is limited to 2X them upping the media won't fix the problem.
From here, assuming you're using the laptop hooked up to a socket, it sounds like you "forgot" to tell the laptop it wasn't running on battery.

That drive is noted for poor media compatibility and lousy firmware. All I can suggest is keep experimenting and look everywhere you can for updates to both the drive and your burning application.
