How is the brightness controlled in hardware - does it have a mechanical adjustment or is it all done with Fn keys?
To me, it sounds like there's a loose connection or a partial short somewhere in the backlight circuit, but if there's a knob or slider that controls it, the potentiometer is dirty or shot. Laptop model would help........ |

Thanks for your response glc
Its an HP Pavilion zv6000 and as far as I can tell there is no mechanical adjustment. Should I take it apart and see if the wires are all in place? |

That seems to be a common issue with HP's of that generation. Taking it apart may make it worse.

I contacted HP and I was on the phone for 30 minutes with someone I had a real hard time understanding. In the end I was informed I was SOL and they had no way of repairing it.
