HardDrive for MacBook
Hey guys,
I've been looking at smaller laptops to replace my 14" HP L2000 for day to day use. I finally decided on a MacBook for the form factor and learning experience. I haven't used a Mac for years. I'm thinking I'll go ahead and order the basic 1.8 Ghz 60 gig HD 512 mb RAM and swap out the hard drive and RAM myself. Here's my question. Which of the following 2 hard drives would you choose? The Momentus has a rep for having pretty low power consumption and the reviews I've read say the noise difference is negligible. Seagate Momentus 160GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM $154.99 Seagate Momentus 100GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM $144.99 Just in case anyone is curious, the RAM I'm going with is: G.SKILL 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 667 (PC2 5400) Notebook Memory - Retail x2 - 74.99

Do you want the storage space or the speed?

That's what I'm debating. I currently have a 100 gig 5400 rpm drive in my HP. I've been happy enough with the space. I usually run with it about half full and the only time it gets close to full is if I'm doing a video project or I have a bunch of video with me on vacation or the like. And I do plan to play a little WoW on the system. Not a lot, but off and on. So I'm leaning towards the 7200 rpm drive, but I wanted to get a few more votes. So far what I've read says the power usage difference between 5400 and 7200 isn't noticeable, and that the speed deference is, but I wanted to make sure that's the consensus here too.
