Which is better toshiba or gateway?

Hey I have to buy a laptop for school next year (fall 2008) i know its still a little early but i am really wondering what is better Toshiba or gateway? both my sisters have a Toshiba and they have worked really well but my computer teacher at York tech says that he really likes his gateway. Now i have to have a laptop for Clemson and i don't know the standards or the software that is needed for that school i am going into civil engineering and all i know is i probably need a computer with a centrino core 2 dueo prosscer someone also said that an apple would be good. Can anyone help me? i know i might need auto cad and word but i have no clue what other software i need and what kind of computer i need to run that software successfully. Especially with the new windows vista. I mostly want to know what i am getting myself into and how much money i might have to save up. thank you.

Gateway is always near the bottom of my list. Toshiba is okay but used to be better. I mostly use Dells and have little trouble with them. IBM (Lenova) as well as Apple make great laptops although a bit pricey.

I agree with mairving on brands. You may want to contact Clemson first and find out what their hardware and software requirements are before investing in your latptop.
