Not sure whether to put this in the vista, mobile, or software category. I have an Acer 5100 5023 and no matter how many times I try, windows fails to install this update. I have googled it and it seems to be a chronic problem with the Acer, however I tried, maybe wrongly, the remedies they listed and I cant get it to work still. The update is called: Silicon Image - Other Hardware - ATI 4379 Serial ATA Controller ...could someone help me out? There are two remedies here, http://forums.microsoft.com/technet/...&tf=0&pageid=0 , but I think I am too dumb to use it right. Could someone break it down for me further?

btw I have Windows vista and a Ati radeon xpress 1100

I would not install any hardware updates. Just install criticals and optionals that you see a need for.

I have a similar problem where Vista keeps offering me to install a sound card driver for a card that I do not have. It actually does install the driver but then repeatedly tells me that the driver is not the correct one for the hardware. Looks like Microsoft still have a few bugs to iron out!
