increase brightness on laptop screen manually?

I know what youre all going to say: use the laptops function key and the brightness up/down keys...weeelll unfortunately thats not an option since the issue only occurs when im in xp pro x64, for which the sony notebook drivers do NOT work. is there a way to manually increase the brightness or something?

Not on a Sony. You are going to have to get the drivers to work somehow, as Sony brightness controls are software-based. I had the exact same problem on my old Sony.
