Recommendations for a tablet pc.

I don't want this to sound to much like one of the million other "Iz needz me a labtop kthnx" threads so I have all the info as far as what I'm looking for in the tablet pc. All I really need are recommendations for Tablet pc's that fit what I want.

  • Looking to spend around $1,700 ish give or take a few.

  • I'm looking for a top-tier tablet pc (lenovo, Fujitsu, etc.), I like the look of the Lifebook 'T' models.

  • I'm looking for above average/good battery life.

  • I want a convertible screen. (I believe those are the ones that fold flat, screen up?)

  • Screen size doesn't matter, smaller means more bat life.

  • WEIGHT WEIGHT WEIGHT. I don't want to be lugging a sack of bricks with me.

  • ALSO I need dual core. I multi task like a fool, so this is important.

  • This one is not AS important but I'd like an internal optical drive, I don't want to mess with trooping around with an external :P

I'm not to worried about RAM I can upgrade that myself. But that is basically what I'm in the market for. Please, any recommendations on make/models of tablets would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

This may run you a bit over budget, but I'd look at the Thinkpad X60/X61 with the Ultrabay accessory. This is the closest you are going to get to an internal optical drive.

Awesome. Thanks I was actually just looking at some of those. I'm not quite sure of the difference between the X60 and the X61 though. I think it has something to do with built in bluetooth?

Thanks GLC you're the best. I'm sure I can customize something from their site that fits my budget

The X61 is the new Santa Rosa Centrino platform. The X60 is the older Napa one. Basic differences on non-ultraportables are an 800 MHz FSB instead of a 667 MHz one, as well as a Draft-N wireless card and a new chipset with better integrated graphics (among other new chipset features). On ultraportables, I'm not sure if the FSB thing still holds true, because those laptops are generally engineered for battery life rather than performance. On the T61, I know there is a Vista ReadyBoost 1 GB hard drive cache option too, but I am not sure if that is part of Santa Rosa or a separate accessory.
