Mouse pointer on IBM ThinkPad T20

Hello. My brother gave me a great refurbished ThinkPad T20 for Christmas and the mouse pointer and pad (on it) was working great... until now. I've been using a plug-in mouse most of the time but wanted to use the laptop's pointer and mousepad when I'm out and about. Problem is, now, I can't get it to work. I have it enabled in the Control Panel correctly and I, of course, unplug the regular mouse when I want to use the laptop's mouse... Any thoughts? Does this thing need cleaned or has the plug-in mouse changed the defaults on the laptop somehow? Do I need to run through a power down/power up to reset it somehow?

Have you tried to Reboot after unplugging the mouse? The trackpoint on my thinkpad continues to work when I have a mouse plugged in. Is it a USB mouse we are talking about?

The trackpoint on my T20 works fine with or without a USB mouse plugged in. It does have to be properly enabled in the bios settings. You do NOT have to install the IBM software, it works fine with the default Windows mouse driver. It MAY not work right if you installed the drivers for your external mouse though.
