laptop transfer to desktop
i have a dell inspiron 9100 that i have been told has a motherboard problem but still powers up sometimes and can run for up to 3 days at once i have had it. but everytime i plug it into the wall it either runs or doesn't. it wont work without being plugged in. i think it may be a power supply issue though. does anyone have any experience with laptops acting this way. if i cant get it to run well i am just gonna swith out the good parts to a desktop if i can match all the components i would appreciate any advice or help
thanks |

Kind of a bit vague.
Do you mean sometimes it works when it is plugged into the wall and sometimes it doesn't and it never works when it is unplugged? If so it is likely to be a system board issue. The parts aren't interchangeable with desktops.

well yeah, it only works sometimes when it is plugged in. then if the wire gets moved the screen goes blank and it kind of makes a crumbling sound. would i be able to swap over the a/v cards to a desktop?

Sounds like a possible short. Have you had Dell look at it?
Nope, you can't use the a/v card. |

Laptops do not use "cards".
Memory is not the same form factor as desktop boards use. Laptops use 144 or 200 pin SODIMMS, desktop boards use 168, 184, or 240 pin DIMMS. Hard drives can be reused with adapters. Video is either soldered to the motherboard or on proprietary snapin modules. Sound is always soldered onto the motherboard. Bottom line? Strip and sell. |
