Yes, I want to game on a laptop
I want a very good gaming laptop because I am going overseas. I'm supposed to ship in december, and I've been waiting to get a laptop because I wanted to get one with an 8800m. Does anyone know when they are supposed to come out? Could anyone suggest some alternatives if I can't get an 8800m. It is very hard to decide which brand, because many have better parts than others, but no one brand seems to have superior parts across the board for a reasonable price. The new Toshiba Satellite X205 seem pretty solid, but I would like your opinion. If I could design a laptop, my main concerns would be having a sound card, an 8800m or the next best thing, a terrific screen, and a good cpu. If I could have a decent sound card, I could get some good headphones and be content. I don't really care about laptop speakers. I don't need alot of bells and whistles. I just want a solid gaming laptop, I will use it mainly to play games, I don't do video encoding or anything else fancy. I would like to keep it under 2k, but I still want to hear all input even if it exceeds the budget. Thanks!
Edit: What do you guys think of Killer Notebooks lineup? According to this review http://www.techwarelabs.com/reviews/...xecutioner-sr/, They actually modify the components to make them even better, such as adding greater surface area to the heatsink and what not. They seemed expensive for the components, but if they really do modify them to run even better, it might be worth it. Last edited by hooah; 10-09-2007 at 05:00 PM. |

Look at the Dell XPS line - the M1710 has a 512mb Go 7950GTX available and the M1730 has a 512mb dual 8700MGT SLI setup.

A friend just got a Asus G2P (I think that was the model) and it games pretty nice. Not sure of the specifications and personally I would want it to be a bit smaller, has a 17 in monitor, but from what I saw it looked pretty sweet. I have also read alot of good reveiws for the Asus G1 and was considering it myself for when my job sends me out of town. Smaller size and less powerful but much more portable.
Have another freind who games on a 17" Alienware. It has nice performance also, but has been back to Alienware 3 times this year getting repaired so I would be a bit concerned with their quality control right now. The second time they returned it to him it looked like someone took a hammer to the case. They ended up replacing it so all is good but in total he lost about two months playiing time during the year while it was being repaired. Kat

If you really want to game on a lap top then you really need a dedicated video card. The fastest gaming laptops are ususlly 17"+ just to allow enough space to place a powerful card and be able to cool it. But even in the smaller screen sizes you want to be able to see a dedicated card in the specifications. If you dont have a dedicated video card you might be able to play a few games but I doubt that the performance would make you very happy. Using on-board graphis in modern games is just not much fun because they require way to many resorces.

i would recomend a Sony Vaio they generally have good prices (thier TV tuner is overpriced and thier RAM is semi overpriced) but evrything else seams to be decent. Whenever you buy a sony it will last you a long time they put parts in thier computers that wont be obsolite for several years.
also check out IBUYPOWER.COM they have nice gameing laptops. |

I absolutely hate working on Vaios - they have an incredible amount of crapware and everything is proprietary to the max. They may look sweet and last a long time, but they are NOT that great a value either, you pay a premium for the Sony name and style.
