Dead Laptop
I have a GR370 Vaio Sony - 6 years old.
Veryt well cared for 512 meg ram pent 3 40 gig HD As of this week, the laptop will not boot to BIOS and go through post power up. The AC cord seems fine. THE LED's on the laptop light up The CD rom starts to spin and i can open the CD ROM door But everything remains blank, No Startup What could it be? Any ideas would be appreciated thank you |

Most likely the motherboard - it's time to get a new laptop. Nothing lasts forever.

Update
What's interesting is that I actually got the laptop to boot after a few dozen restarts by holding the power button down.
It's working fine now, as long as I don't turn it off. If it were the mother board, shouldn't I see some indication of a hardware failure? |

I suppose a battery in really bad shape might cause this.

I have a Sony 400mzh lappy....It's real old but almost in brand new condition....I got it with a dead battery and no power supply...Spent almost a 100 bucks on a new power supply only to find out it has to have a working battery just to turn on. Course the battery cost 150 bucks...
You might try looking for a local retailer that sells the batteries. They might at least let you use thiers to test the machine.
