Acer 4620z
I have a laptop an Acer 4620Z
Intel Pentium daul-core processor T2310 1.46GHZ 2 GB DDR2 RAM 160 GB HD two paritions Vista Home Premuim I have updated Vista using window updates and when I updated Intel Corporation driver update for Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family and Atheros Communication Inc -Networking-Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter my screen display got larger and it said successful for update and then I got the blue screen of death...so I restarted the laptop and I went to login on vista and I got the blue screen of death again....On the next boot I went to safe mode and device manager and nothing seem to be wrong....so I tried starting up windows update but windows wouldnt let me(safe mode) then I decided to do a restore point for a update I did a minute earlier and it work.... My question is now since I did the restore and it has taken up space on my HD how can I get the space back??? Do I have to delete all of the restore points??? Second question I have recently bought this computer and I found that 72 processes were running at the beginging and now I have elimanted many startup items and services but I have running right now i have 45 processes running with internet explorer and task manger so about 43 processes.... How can I get that number down???... I have been sitting on the laptop most of the time and ending processes and services... I got it down to 40 one time... |

For services you can check here to see what you might be able to disable: http://www.blackviper.com/WinVista/servicecfg.htm

I would try going into device manager and rolling back the drivers one at a time until you find which one is causing the problems.

My question is how do I get my HD space back from space that the system restore took up??? if someone could tell who is running vista and has low processes running without any extra programs besides office and windows live one care and explorer... i got like 40... I am worried that after time my pc will die due to having the proceessor run lots of commands and I want to use the least amount of memory as possible..... Thank You |

As far as cleaning up the Restore points. If you run Disk Cleanup it has an option to remove them. |

40 is pretty low. Heck, I have anywhere from around 50 to 60 running, with 100% CPU usage. Still hasn't died, and it most likely won't. I wouldn't spend time worrying about that. |

RJTech,
Just so you know, I encountered the exact same problem with my 4620Z. The 965 update was listed as an "optional update". And I got blue-screened a few times. I safe-moded in, and uninstalled the graphics driver - I think I did it from the ADD/REMOVE programs, but I'm not sure. I was frantic at the time, as I only had the laptop in my possession for about 2 hours at that point, and had already managed to F' it up. Since then it has been rock solid. |
