Ram upgrade on a HP dv2225nr
Im looking to upgrade the ram in my laptop (HP Dv2225nr). I was going to pay best-buy to do it until I found out how easy it was.
I searched via google (because I couldn't find on hp.com) which ram it takes. I came up with PC2-5300. I think the thing currently has 1gb of ram. I want to max it out with 2gb. With that said, can anyone recommend a certain brand? Also, I have the compartment open and the sticks are "staggered". I assume their the same size, just not directly over each other ( I assume for heat issues)? Ive helped build my own desktop pc so Im no hardware noob - just scared to mess with this as it is a much tighter space and plus I don't want to void my warranty. I know this could, but if I ever have a problem I'll put the old ram back in before I take it in for warranty service. These are what I found when searching for PC2-5300. Do I need a dual channel kit? Ive also Gskill in my custom desktop so I wouldnt mind having it in my laptop. But make your recommendations as Ive never had experience with laptops with gskill. I have my eyes most on this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231116 |

The safest way to do it is buy your ram from the Crucial configurator.
http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...ion%20dv2225nr Get the 2gb dual channel kit of 5300 speed for 60 bucks. |

The only ones that come up compatible are Corsair Value Select 4200 speed, single modules, no dual channel kits. Get the Crucial.

Ok I ordered this:
http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartsp...A79F97A5CA7304 From this page : http://www.crucial.com/store/listpar...ion%20dv2225nr Which is located as "BEST". Can one of you just double confirm it is compatible? And when I get the ram and install it I will post back and let you guys know how I like it. Thanks for the help. |

Glc's last post was referring to the Newegg configurator. The RAM you bought will be fine; Crucial guarantees compatibility.

Ram arrived a day early. My first ever go at a laptop and the installation was a breeze. I didnt realize it would be that easy. Anyhow it took me maybe all of 10 minutes (only that long because I was being extra careful). I use the laptop to game alot. So I had it start loading the world and I turned to throw something in the trash and turned back around and it was already loaded up and ready to go. Excuse my language, but I said "DAMN!". Needless to say, so far it looks to be a great upgrade.
