If your desktop is capable of gaming, why are you looking at gaming laptops?

The Inspiron XPS M1530 looks like an Inspiron 1520/Vostro 1500 with a prettier case and more expensive options. If you're going to go with a Dell, just get one of those.

The 1520 comes standard with a 8400M video chip now.

It has come standard with that, but an 8600M has been available. Did they change that?

EDIT: No, it is still available.

Go with an Asus if you want it to last and get great customer support. Too much run around with Dell and they always cut corners even on the high end stuff.

I disagree. Dell support is very good (and has also improved over the past couple of years) and although their laptops are not ThinkPad-quality, they're still quite good. I have recommended countless Dells to customers and friends and have only heard of problems from those people with Dell's older Latitude models.

I'm with you on this one fulton... I've had an Inspiron 9300 for a few years now, and the two times I've had issues Dell have been very helpful. And they were only very minor issues, which were to do with the USB ports being a little problematic.

m1530 is awesome. I'm probably going to order one this week. User impressions have been overwhelmingly positive thus far (great build quality, lots of cool extras (i.e. Media Controller, Good quality built in webcam, HDMI, Comes with a slick case, etc.)).

Um, you have no clue what you're talking about. The M1530 is a totally different machine, it's a lot thinner and lighter.

Sorry, but in terms of specs it's almost identical. Same processors, same graphics cards, same screens, etc. You're paying an awful lot extra for a nice looking case, even if that case is a lot thinner and lighter.

On another note, speaking as a moderator, telling people "you have no clue what you're talking about" is not acceptable on PCMech. If you want to correct someone if you think they are wrong, there are much better ways of doing so than putting them down. Maybe that kind of response is allowed on other forums you're on, but it's not here.

First of all it's not the same gpu's, particularly the 8600m GT's, the one in the XPS are the superior DDR3 versions. Secondly, if having the same line of processors, GPU's, and Screens mean it's the same PC's then a huge percentage of laptops out there are the same as a vostro or Inspiron according to you since many laptops out there use intel core 2 duo, the 8600m gt, and the same type of screens (xga, xga+, etc.). The Vostro's and the Inspirons are the same pc with a different exterior, the components that make up the m1530 and m1330 are different enough that it would be like comparing the vostro and Inspiron to a Toshiba or Sager.
