Quad-Core Laptops Around $3000 loaded?

Any word on when these will be on the market from Dell, Apple, HP, and the other major manufacturers?

Your friend and mine - Me Google has a bunch of info:

Intel working on quad-core chip for notebooks The chip, set for a 2008 release, will initially be aimed only at high-end users and is expected to be slow to penetrate the business notebook market

Quad-core ... in a notebook?
Total price quoted to APC is $7,501 - one of the most expensive prices we've seen quoted in a system for quite some time.

My guess is it's highly inefficient, and once you get quad core processors running, you need to increase the spec on everything else. The power supply will need a beefing up, then customers will want huge batteries to last the whole day on their laptop, the list goes on. Really I dont see the problem with buying a small ish, ok laptop, and then getting your supreme heavy weight in the form of a desktop, which is probably far more practicle, needless to say more sensible.

I just wanted to make sure before I spend $2400 on a Dual Core laptop from Dell there wouldn't be a Quad Core one of one or around the same price coming out in January.

It's all about personal preference. I'm a fan of desktop replacements. I love the 17" widescreen. There's NOTHING wrong with buying a smallish, OK laptop! I never said anything in regards to that. Everyone should buy what they think is right for them.
