Bad CPU or Motherboard??

I have a Gateway M520 that will not boot. It had the dreaded loose power jack and that was fixed but now all it will do when it is turned on is spin the fan and the dvd and that is it. There is no attempt at video or any thing. I did put a dvd in the drive and it spun it like it was reading it. Is this a bad board or cpu? To replace both is around 400 bucks and I can get a new notebook for a couple hundred more.

Define "fixed."

CPU's are pretty hard to kill. Mobo's on the other hand are real easy....

Fixed as in replaced...both the jack and the power supply....the center post was completly gone out of the old adaptor..im wondering if it didnt "spike" and take out something on the board..and as you say..boards are easy to kill...

You say you get nothing on the screen? Try hooking it up to an external monitor to see if just the LCD screen is bad. Did it work fine before the power jack was fixed? Something might have been knocked loose during the repairs. If you still get nothing, you are most likely dealing with a dead unit.
