no power on HP Laptop

My friend's laptop won't power up or charge. She has a HP Pavilion ZE2000. is there a way to find out if it is the battery or the AC Adapter?

Thanks

Has said friend stepped on the cord before? Might have yanked something on the motherboard...seen it lots.

You can check both the battery and the AC Adapter.

To check if its the battery or AC Adapter. Remove the battery of the laptop. Turn it on with just the AC Adapter. Try to wiggle/move the connector check if that will help. Also notice when you press the power button if anything will light up/blink. If you have a spare AC or you can borrow one try to use that. If still no power. I suspect mobo is causing the problem.

I have a HP laptop, and I have precisely the same problem. It is not an HP specific problem, but rather the way the power jack connects to the back/side of the laptop.

If the power cord were jerked out or somehow dislodged within the laptop, this would have created the problem you describe. I suggest following the advice within RC Valencia's post.

I think it is the connection itself, not the motherboard. I had the same problem with another well used laptop, this one made by Toshiba.

The answer, if this is the problem: take the laptop apart and solder the connection again.
