my laptop is'nt working

i overused it and it was always on charge it was also abused quite badly bumped and things but nothing severe anf one day i was at a mates and it went weird like it was out of battery although it was plugged in its power light turned red and it switched off
the next morning i was sht scared when my dad asked to use it i gave him it and it turned on and worked as normal but he shut it down and gave it back to me lter
i went to see if it was working and when i switchd it on i got the power light as green the battery charge light and the light for the disk drive and hard drive flashed thrice also the wireless enabled light goes on but nothing appears on screen and the hard disk light does not flash after the first three times this is irregular the fan works but nothing else apart from the disk drive being able yo open happens i cant put caps lock on or anything
im not sure if this helps but when my dad took the back off he couldnt see the hard drive as i know it anyway there was a silver box however
i have tried putting the vista basic backup in the drive but it doesnt react
its not the monitor cause i put my pc monitor into the ack and it does not react to it
has anyone ever heard of or experienced this if you have or if you know anything please tell me
any help would be appreciated
and ill happily tell you any info about it

Sounds like a dead/dying motherboard. If it's got Vista, though, chances are it's still under warranty, so you should try to get it fixed that way. Otherwise it's a $500+ repair in the US -- not sure what it's like in the UK.
