You can use disk manager to partition the hard drive.

For anti-virus and anti-spyware I use: Avast antivirus, spyware blaster, spybot search and destroy, avg anti-spyware

Click on start.

Then right click on Computer. Choose manage.

Click on where it says disk management.

Choose which partition you want to split. Right click it, and choose shrink volume.

Be careful when doing this. Make sure you have everything backed up.

When you shrink the volume, you creat a new one with the rest of the space.

Vista is not capable enough to do exactly that - you will need a 3rd party partition manager.

You would want to get PartitionMagic. GParted is an open-source (and thus free) partition manager, but I've hear a number of bad experiences with it, so I'd recommend PartitionMagic.

I've used GParted quite a few times with no problems. Of course, backup any important data first, but it sounds like you're just trying to partition a new computer, so presumably there isn't anything unique on the drive yet, right?
