AMD vs Intel

In reading through some of the posts here, I'm picking up on preferences of Intel over AMD for mobile CPUs. I'm in the market for a laptop that will be general purpose - web surfing, word processing, some money/account management, possibly some portable DVD viewing.

I'd like to stir up some discussion on how the newer processors are stacking up for mobile usage, especially in the areas of power usage/battery life and thermal issues (my old HP with AMD Athalon overheats too easily).

Thanks for any input - just trying to stir the pot a bit.

For the most part Intel processors are faster and more efficient than their AMD counterparts in the mobile area of computing. AMD powered computers are a good choice if you're looking for a fast and inexpensive laptop without much regards to battery life, or an inexpensive gaming laptop (less integrated laptop solutions from AMD).

thats pretty much it...

if you want powerful yet long battery life then look for Intel Laptops...they can have as much as 4hours longer battery life than a AMD laptop of the same size...

you may spend more but longer battery life is worth it...
