Laptop Questions
Hello:
I posted a while back some desktop specs, but now that I'm re-entering the college scene again I'm looking to reconsider that decision. I'm looking at Powernotebooks.com (PowerPro P 11:14) and really like the setup. I've upgraded as follows: CPU: 8100 2.1 Ghz Penryn 45nm Ram: 3bb Dual Channel HDD:120gb SATA II Wireless:Went with the built in option I had a Dell 5150 and it was problematic to say the lease, and I haven't owned a laptop since for fear of being "bitten" again. The problem was that they had a HUGE Intel 3.04 or 3.06 in there with improper cooling or the cooling failed, but either way the thing underwent meltdown. This leads my to my next question. Based on what I've been reading based on the 45nm archetecture it "should" make a superb notebook chip ie Low power use + low heat. Am I correct with this assertion? I'm also looking to get these: Quadcooler Creative HN-700 3.5mm Connector Circumaural Noise-Cancelling Headphone Logitech G5 2-Tone 7 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Laser Mouse - Retail Creative HN-700 3.5mm Connector Circumaural Noise-Cancelling Headphone This would give me a decent desktop and a nice laptop to work with. I've also been looking at the Eee PC for a May-June Purchase. Either the 701 or the new 900 series as an ultra portable solution to complete my trifecta. I'm working towards an Associate in Applied Science Degree/ Advanced Certificate in Web Information Technology Certificate/AAS Degree, and then moving on to a local universities 4-year to finnish up. Anyway, should the Eee PC be adequate for at least some portion of my program needs? I know I'll be floating around a lot as a college student again. I won't live on campus, but I won't always be at home either -- I'll be a nomad. A Desktop is just not going to be possible with the weekly migration. A laptop with something to curb my game cravings, and fits into a 14.1" frame seems to be what the doctor ordered. The Eee PC goes the next step further for mobility and connectivity while on campus. My plan is to stow the laptop at "home base" and take the Eee PC with me on campus. I have a couple nooks and crannies scoped out that are great for writting papers and studying, and a library computer isn't always available. Your responses to my ramble much appreciated, Klutz

I wouldn't just leave a laptop somewhere public unattended. Personally, I think a 14" laptop isn't too heavy to carry around, so as long as it gets good battery life, there shouldn't be a problem with having only one.

Sounds like you _do_ "need" a gaming laptop (Normally would discourage that, as it's much more expensive than an equivilent desktop, but you can't carry a desktop all over the place....well, I've done it....on a plane, etc, but it's no fun).
Be very careful with the eeepc. That machine is absolutely tiny (I didn't realize just how small it is 'till I saw one in person). If you're doing a lot of programming/paper writing and you touch type, it'll probably be painful. It _is_ very portable though. As long as you're not using special programs in your studies you should be fine; the eee will do word processing (And probably programming; it's linux after all).

Here's a link to the program's requirements. As far a gamings concerened I'd really only have time to mess around in Eve, and from what I've been reading you can make Eve playable enough to change skills or check transactions. The other reason I'm looking @ an Eee Pc is to replace my PPC. As far as typing, the Eee PC is way better than the PPC point-n-peck system. I have some time to think about this purchase and do more research on it before I make my final decision. I also have a laptop to get used to first in the mean time. thanks again, Klutz Last edited by Klutz_atlantis; 03-11-2008 at 07:37 PM. |
