how to add ram to sony notebook??
hi
picked up a sony mini notebook-model pcg-sr33: celeron 600/128ram/10ghhdd/8 mb videoram...wld like to add xtra ram but see no ram slot??? there is a port on the side which says "memory stick"---is that how it is done?..what type ram goes into this slot? windows xp runs but very slowly with alot of hdd thrashing (as expected) the machine is so cute--very samall great for travelling also the "fn" keys do not function---is this a software issue (no setup bios menu to activate/control "Fn" key). thanx!!! |

That notebook takes PC100 SDRAM SODIMMS. They will be taugh to find though. Crucial doesn't stock that RAM, but they say it can handle 2 sticks of 128MB maximum.
The Memory Stick slot on the side is for Sony's own memory sticks they use in other devices. ![]() Sony should have a manual online for how to disassemble the notebook.

i have some of those sticks but was hoping disassembly if the notebook wld not be nexessary just to add ram! poor design

It's in the user manual. Looks like you have to take the keyboard off the get to the memory. Seems pretty simple.
