I need an unbias response

Is Thinkpad T61 really durable? Does it really last for quite awhile; I'm talking about 3 to 4 years? From what I've been reading, thinkpads are the best built laptops, but I'm not sure. I'm thinking of purchasing this laptop online and I don't want disappoint myself if I find it to be just another "regular" laptop like having "just a good enough" laptop that I could have purchased somewhere else for cheaper in a store.

I'd vote for it. I have dealt with many different makes of laptops and Thinkpads are one of the better ones. I have an X31 and X41 and they are both great. I think you are going to find that people who own a Thinkpad will recommend them and for good reason. I really like the trackpoint and have had it on all my laptops I've owned.

Thinkpad T series have always been very reliable and durable. I have an 8 year old T20 that's still going strong.

Keep in mind that "durable" doesn't mean you can drop it out of a ten story window AND expect to bootup when you pick it up off the sidewalk. (if there's anything to pick up)

Right - if you want to do that you need a Panasonic Toughbook to even stand a chance of its survival.

Eight years????? Now I really wish I had kept my old TP (bought ~10 years ago) and not bought the Sony VAIO before getting my current T61. The Sony made me realize how much I missed the TP-760ED's durability and build quality. Now, with the T-61 (which arrived two days ago), I am back to a really good laptop PC that should last me a long time. This is one heck of a notebook, and although I am still loading and transferring stuff onto it, I am very impressed with everything about it.

Yep, I'm also a fan of Thinkpads and finally parted ways with a 6-7 year old 390X when I purchased a T60 a couple years ago. Very reliable and durable notebooks.
