Intel 845MP or MZ?

I was given a HP zt1260 laptop that isn't working. After finding out that the HDD was bad, I decided to fix this thing up for my own use.
I have a Toshiba 60GB, 5400 rpm, 8mb HDD on the way and XP Pro O/S to install.
I wanted to increase the memory but ran into a snag. If it has the Intel 845MP cpu, it can use 1GB or 2X512 PC2100 DDR memory.
If it has the Intel 845MZ cpu, it says it would have 512mb or 2X256mb memory. Both cpu's are P4 1.6, however, selected models have the Intel P4c 1.6 without speedstep technology.
Problem is is that I don't know which cpu it has. I'm wondering id 1GB of memory can be used with either one?

I may have my answer in that it has one stick of 256mb PC2100 ddr memory installed. Sure would like to be able to get it to 1GB of memory.

Can anyone help with this question?

TIA Kubie

I'm not exactly sure, but you might want to check out crucial.com and see what they say. Let it scan the computer after you install the hard drive and os.

I may have to do that shadowpr.
I wish one of the sticks of memory wasn't under the keyboard though.

Thanks for the reply.
