Which Laptop?
I am looking at buying a laptop from Newegg (or other if I can find I can find it cheaper) and I am looking at theses two:
Acer Aspire AS5920 - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16834115458 ASUS F3 Series F3KA - http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16834220305 My main concerns are with the video card and the processor. Which one of these systems do you think is the best (for the money)? I like the Acer because of the Core 2, but I like the Asus because of the ATI vid card. Let me know what your opinions are. Thanks. |

I would say that they would be pretty close in performance but the Acer more options built in thus the higher price.

I'd recommend the Acer, it has both the video card, nVidia 8600m GT, and processor, Intel, that you're looking for. But if you're on more of a budget, you should go with the ASUS. Like flanzig said, the performance is nearly identical and so it comes down to your needs.

I'd choose an Intel platform for a laptop over AMD anyday. I think the Acer is worth the extra expense for that.
Are you sure you want Vista?

Ok, that is what I was thinking. I prefer Intel over AMD, however I do also prefer ATI over nVidia. So I was just wanting some opinions. I was planning on going for the Acer just because it seems like it would out perform the AMD by enough for the extra price.
As far as Vista??? HELL NO! If I was able to I would choose no OS and save me some money. Because I get free XP Pro through my college since I am an Engineering Student .

Well personally I think the Acer Aspire AS5920 - is a better choice.

I am post a follow-up thread on my last thread "best laptop." I wanted some last opinions on these two laptops:
Acer: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16834115458 Asus: http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16834220305 My plan is to go with the Asus and then us my extra money to buy a 200 GB 7200 RPM hard drive (then use the 250 GB HDD as an external drive). I was convinced by a friend to go this route because he believes that the Turion 2.0 GHz would perform pretty much as well as the Core 2 Duo 2.1 GHz. Plus, he thinks that the 7200 RPM HDD will be quite a bit better than the 5200 stock HDD. Any extra thoughts would be much appreciated. |

A Turion system will give you roughly equivalent performance to a basic Core 2 Duo one -- the problem is that it has somewhat inferior battery life.
Incidentally, why are you not looking at Dells?

The dells are more expensive for what you can get with the Acer and/or Asus that I am looking at. These two models have good video cards, drive capacity, ram, etc. For an inspiron with the equivalent it's $1200+, at least the one that I put together was. I do like Dell, however, because of their warranties and customer service... that is the only reason I'd go with a Dell.

Look in the Dell refurb outlet - you can score a good one pretty cheap.

Do you know if they carry the same warrany, typically?
I'll take a look, I'm assuming that it is pretty easy to find. |

**UPDATE**
Thanks for everyones help. I went with your advice and went with a Dell refurb. I chose an XPS M1530 (Alpine White), Core 2 Duo 2.2GHz. It has 3 gigs of memory, a 120 Gb 7200 RPM HDD, a 256MB Nvidia GeoForce 8600M GT video card, and lots of other nice hardware... all for $969.00!!!! I think I will be happy with it, if not then maybe Dell will take it back .Anyways, thanks again! P.S. There was a black XPS for $879, but I wanted the white one... plus the black one had a 5400RPM HDD, so I would have spent about $50 more after I got a 7200 RPM HDD from newegg. |
