How to check the integrity of the laptop's hardware?

Hello. I bought a Toshiba laptop recently. Its been running pretty flawlessly for last 20 days. But this night something weird happened. I closed the laptop to have it in sleep mode and went to bed.

When I woke up I guess it didn't go to sleep mode and the surface near keyboard was hotter than normal. Later the system froze and required pressing of a button to shut down.

After restart everything is okay.

Since the 30 days to exchange it at the store are almost up I wonder if I can run some tests to check the integrity of teh CPU and the harddrive?

Is there anything you can suggest?

Looking on Toshiba’s web site for diagnostic software would be a place to start.

Just return it to the shop and ask them to check it out. If you run tests some unscrupulous retailer might suggest you caused the fault.

Always noticed Toshiba laptops run a tad too hot, in the past I've replaced their TIM (thermal paste) with a better/higher quality one. have you considered this might not be a hardware fault but software?

Doing this will void the warranty. This is something you do after the warranty has expired.

I'm old school. Laptops are not meant to be left on constantly, sleep mode or not. Hibernate them if you want a faster startup.
