Does Dell ues Refurbished Replacement Parts for Warranty Service?

The LCD screen and the entire surrounding case on my M1710 needs replacing as one of the hinges broke. The laptop is about a year and a half old and is still under warranty. Dell is sending someone out to replace it.

I'm wondering if Dell usually uses refurbished parts for replacement since this is not a brand new unit.

Thanks in advance

My experience with some companies is that they do use refurbished parts. I guess this cut costs and I owuldn't be surprised if its a norm.

Ask the tech guy when he comes if its refurbished.

Odds are that it will at least have a refurb sticker on it. Companies like Dell are not alllowed to call parts new. Once it's been taken out of factory sealed box from the original part maker, it's considered used. (stupid federal law)

This is what the Tech told me as well.

Only the case holding the LCD screen was replaced, I still have my original display. But if the parts are refurbed, it sure doesn't look like it. My laptop now looks as clean and shiny as the first day I received it.

I received a replacement drive from Dell to replace a month old drive.
I was "miffed" for a few years about getting a refurb drive...(even though I never had issues with it)

Then I heard about the refurb deal from a Dell rep a short while back and it made a lot of sense.

when I got a refurb drive from seagate, I continued to argue with them, and ended up getting a larger capacity drive. I sure feel better knowing that the refurb might still have been a new one that was just opened.
