Tough Question ?!
ok people .. I dont know why nobody answer my questions .. I always post reasonable and clear pots with gentle language to be understood easily ! I use pcmech.com as source of knowledge beside wiki .. nnow I dont get that much when I ask !ignore my last question
Laptop Backup .. questions before i do it ! and help me here please ! I was going to use my backup DVDs to restore the vista to it previous shape when I bought the laptop ... but while backing up my files from the C drive .. I found a file named "x86" and contain files , one of them is "setup.exe" , when I click that a windwos vista setup wizard opened ! .. the whole "x86" file is about 3.7 GB ... which its looks like a DVD .. is it a Vista DVD ? if answer is yes , then : Can I burn it to a DVD and use it to format my pc ? because I cant portion the hard drive using backups ! thanks for advancing ! |

All laptops have restore partitions.
You need the restore disks for the obvious reason that if something happens to the hard drive you won't be able to reach the restore partition. The restore partition will return your laptop to factory condition, just as you originally received it. If you have already burnt yourself a set of DVDs then you don't need to go through that again, just put them somewhere safe. I don't know about Toshiba but Dell used to include a version of Ghost on it's laptops so it's possible you will have an app to partition the drive after the restore, that information should be in your manual. Just be careful, as you have found out the restore partition is hidden and you don't want to nuke it in error.

I'm thinking the reason you did not get a response to your original post is you own a laptop that is not sold in the US and nobody knows exactly how Fujitsu-Siemens sets up the restore system. Any time you have a name brand computer that uses multiple partitions and a restore partition and does not provide reinstallation media, it has to be handled carefully and specifically. Dell, Toshiba, Sony, Acer, HP, and Lenovo all have restore systems, and they ALL differ in exactly how you have to handle them. NONE of them have a way to change any of the partitions that I know of, and I doubt that the "backups" you made can do that either.
Perhaps you may get better answers in this case from manufacturer's support. |

Some of them actually do have utilities to resize partitions, but you're going to lose everything on the drive, including the stuff in the D: partition, if you use them. I'm not sure if Fujitsu-Siemens has such a function in the restore software, either.
