Problem With Laptop Screen

Hello All, got an odd problem.

My wift has a laptop given to her by her brother who is an IT Manager that has tons of leftover used and refurbished desktops and laptops (so warranty chances are non-existent).

It's a Latitude X300 with Win XP. Once or twice a day, the screen will lock up and vertical lines will appear across the screen. I'm unable to use the keyboard or mouse when this happens. I'm not sure if they lose all functionality or if I just can't see the mouse move/characters type due to the screen being frozen.

Any idea if the laptop screen is on the way out? What other info would you like me to provide?

p.s. she uses the laptop about 2 - 3 hours a day, and it happens at least once every day. Rebooting makes the frozen screen go away.

-Nate

this may work but I not sure. try to open the laptop up and find the connection from the Motherboard to the screen and un plug it and then reconnect it. may work if not if may be that the screen is almost dead.

I had a feeling I should have tried that, but I wanted to be sure.

Thanks!

I doubt it would work -- it sounds like there is something wrong with the integrated graphics. Unfortunately, the only cure for that is a ~$500 motherboard replacement.
