Buying Laptop Batteries
Hi all,
I'm shopping for a replacement battery for a laptop and was curious what online vendors you recommended that are reputable for buying replacement batteries (for both Mac/PC). Thanks in advance. |

Believe it or not, eBay can be a good source. For some manufacturers (e.g. Dell), new OEM batteries are available there for much less than directly from Dell. For some other manufacturers, only third-party batteries are available. I'm hesitant to recommend these, but I have used them before, in particular on my old Sony. The battery died at an extremely inopportune time (right as I was selling the laptop -- it crapped out in between me turning it on to take pictures, and the person who bought it receiving it; this person was very unhappy and I had to refund him and relist the laptop when I bought a new battery). However, it was so much cheaper than the OEM battery (I think it was something between $100 and $150 for the extended capacity model, vs. $350 for a Sony battery of the same design), so even after having to buy two, I still came out ahead.

Thanks for the advice. I've looked at eBay and I'm a bit hesitant to buy from there -- mainly because I see the battery I need listed from $40 all the way to $100+. The battery I need is for a 13.3" Macbook. The price at the Apple store is $129, but I've found replacement batteries at stores online for around $100 that looked reputable. Has anyone used/heard of eBatts.com, DuracellDirect, or AtBatt?
http://www.calcellular.com/apple-lt-a1185.html -- anyone familiar with this store? They have pretty good rating at bizrate.com Thanks again. P.S. Sorry for not posting this in the Mobile forum. Feel free to move this post. Last edited by Floppyman; 07-13-2008 at 11:01 PM. |

I've bought replacement batteries from ebay vendors on several occasions. Seems like I've found various Dell, HP, Compaq and Toshiba units and bought them from sellers with a high satisfaction rating. The last couple Dell batteries have come directly from a Chinese vendor via USPS. Surprisingly delivery was less than a week and the quality seems good.
