All GeForce 8400M and 8600M chips may be bad
http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/10/a...-chips-faulty/
Most of the current generation of laptops with discrete graphics (for example, Dell 1420/1520/1525/1720/XPS M1330/XPS M1530, recent Apple MacBook Pros, and Lenovo ThinkPad T61s; others are affected too, but I am not familiar with other manufacturers' product lines) use these chips.

This is really upsetting, I wish nvidia would speak up about the issue. My dad bought a XPS M1530 a few months ago, so luckily his warranty won't expire till '09. I hope more information about the defective chips comes up soon.

I have noticed a lot of heat coming from the video card exhaust. My laptop is new and almost a full year warranty so we'll see what happens.
