eee pc, in particular the 901 linux

Hi guys, dont know wether this should be in the linux section or here, so will try heer first lol.

i bought and eee 901 the other day and am having a few problems (seems a lot of people are actually)

1. sometimes hangs on shutdown - suspected to be an issue with the wifi
2. wifi connects fine at boot, then drops connection after a minute or so until its manually reconnected
3. updates not working (god knows why asus isnt on this one??) from what other people are saying, the repositories are broken or not there at all.

i was wondering if any of you guys have had similar problems or know how to fix it? ive been posting on eeeuser.com and not really had much luck there, and the asus borads only have 13 posts relating to the 901 so far so i didnt even bother asking there yet.

Thanks for any replies
Nathan

eeeuser is actually the best place for eee issues.

Are you using the actual linux version that came on the eee?

Cause I know the shutdown issue is documented with ubuntu.

As for wifi connecting, and disconnecting, have you tried to move closer to the signal?

And with updates, are they downloading, and just not installing?

ok, shut down issue i have sort of resolved, if i shut down the wiirelss card prior to turning the thing off, it doesnt hang

yes im using the standard linux on the eee, although thinking of moving onto ubuntu or debian if i cant eventually fix the problems on this.

the wifi dissconnects a few minutes after it initially connects. then i have to manually restart it, then its fine, no matter where i move to in the house.

and with the updates - there is an add/remove software link on the settings tab (im using easy mode) then i go to the updates tab, and all the downloads have failed. apart from one which is aan update to the touchpad or something.

thanks for the relpy btw

Not really sure what else I can help with. You could try a different distro, or even call asus tech support. They "SHOULD" know how to fix their problems, but who knows.

from what people have been saying on the eee forum, the asus people refure to belive the repo's are broke, and told the guy to go and check some bios setting (a bios setting that didnt exist) so its not looking bright for asus.

its a shame really, its a great little machine, and other than its few problems its great to use.

One of the reasons i just jumped ship and went with linux mint.

My only problem (after getting mint to work) was that i think i had a bad sector on the flash drive. Not sure. Problem seems to be gone. If I can reproduce it though, then I might be able to get an rma.
