Upgrading RAM of D620 Latitude

I have had this laptop for about 2 years. I am looking to upgrade from the 1 gb of ram I have currently. I am thinking of adding about another gig. I have 2 questions:

1) What is the normal configuration for ram on D620s? Is it 2 x 500 mb or 1 x 1gb? The DELL rep had no idea on this question...

2) Do I have to buy DELL brand ram? Can I go on TigerDirect and get the same?

Thanks!

You can use any brand ram that is compaible.

I would let crucial.com scan my laptop and tell me.

Then you can comp[are prices at newegg.com

Thanks for that link, it's just what I needed!

I just had one added question regarding Dual Channel Support. The website says that I should preferably get a "kit". If I just buy an extra 1 gb stick of the same speed, PC5300 would this enable Dual Channel Support?

Thanks!

Maybe. The modules have to be pretty closely matched or dual channel won't work.

Dell Latitude D620

# Chipset: Intel 945GM
# Maximum Memory: 4096MB
# Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)
# Standard Memory: 512MB removable
# USB Support: 2.x Compliant

I would recommend ordering something like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145157

-or-

http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartsp...394AE5A5CA7304
